RALEIGH, N.C. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered a 3-2 non-conference setback to Meredith in the season opener for both teams on Friday at the Meredith Track & Field Complex.
The Warriors (0-1-0), who made their first road trip outside the Central time zone in 14 years, played through a scoreless first half with the Angels (1-0-0). WLC out-shot MC 6-4 in the opening half, with each team placing one shot on frame.
Junior
Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) put Wisconsin Lutheran on the scoreboard first in the 49th minute with an unassisted score. The Warriors held the lead for the next 19 minutes before Meredith netted three goals in a less than a two-minute span for a 3-1 advantage.
WLC had five shots on target over the final 20 minutes, including the first career goal from freshman
Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) in the 81st minute. Freshman
Morgan Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) had a pair of chances denied in the 83rd minute, as the Angels held on for the one-goal victory.
Wisconsin Lutheran had a 14-10 advantage in shots over MC, including 8-6 in shots on goal. Shade led the Warriors with three shots, while three other players tallied two each. Sophomore
