Warriors' Weekend In Tennessee Ends With Two Wins

Biggin amasses .482 hitting percentage across six sets

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College wrapped up its opening weekend of the season at the Maryville Invitational with a pair of victories over Maryville and BrevardĀ on Saturday at Cooper Athletic Center.

The Warriors (2-1) came from behind in their first match to top the host Scots (1-3) in four sets by scores of 19-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21. WLC finished the match hitting .291 with 55 kills, 16 errors, and 134 attempts. Meanwhile, MC hit .167 with 38 kills, 18 errors, and 120 attempts.Ā 

Junior Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) collected a match-high 12 kills, while senior Amahra Matthai (Plover, Wis.) added nine kills and four total blocks. Juniors Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) and Bailey Halliburton (Germantown, Wis.) combined to hit .468 with 15 kills and zero errors. Biggin served up a trio of aces, while Halliburton tied a career-high with five block assists.

Senior Karah Valerio (Pewaukee, Wis.) led Wisconsin Lutheran with 15 assists, freshman Hannah Rood (Burnsville, Minn.) added 13, and senior Emma Incaprero (Mauston, Wis.) chipped in with 12. Senior Kylee Gnabasik (Jefferson, Wis.) recorded a match-high 18 digs.

The Warriors secured their first sweep of the season with a 3-0 victory over the TornadosĀ (2-2) in their final match by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-22. WLC recorded 37 kills, 21 errors, and 100 attacks for a .160 hitting percentage. BC was held to a .078 hitting percentage with 23 kills, 16 errors, and 90 attempts.Ā 

Biggin and Halliburton tallied eight kills apiece to lead Wisconsin Lutheran. Valerio dished out 11 assists, while Incaprero and Rood had eight each.

The Warriors served up 16 aces, including three each from Biggin, Halliburton, junior Lily Schuetz (Lake Mills, Wis.), and sophomore Shannon Rusch (Edgerton, Wis.). Rusch also recorded a team-high 10 digs and four block assists. MatthaiĀ also matched Rusch with four block assists.Ā 

WLC returns home next weekend for its first home matches of the season. Wisconsin Lutheran kicks off its home quadrangular by hosting Monmouth (3-1) on Friday at 6 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
