WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday with a 1-1 draw against Marian at Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (3-2-1, 0-0-1 NACC) fell behind 1-0 in the 32nd minute on an unassisted Sabres goal from Micah Boyer. The score read 1-0 at halftime despite WLC out-shooting MU 8-2, including 3-1 in shots on goal.
Wisconsin Lutheran evened the score at 1-1 in the 56th minute when junior
Jack Leffel (Germantown, Wis.) connected on a header that was deflected off the Marian keeper from a corner kick. It was Leffel's first goal of the season. The Warriors had a pair of scoring chances in the 78th and 86th minute, but both were turned away.
WLC, which out-shot the Sabres 17-7, also had the edge in shots on goal (6-5) and corner kicks (6-4). Both teams committed 14 fouls. Sophomore
Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded a match-high five shots. Senior
Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made four saves.
Nathan Espinoza collected five saves for MU (1-3-3, 0-0-1 NACC).Â
