Second Half Outburst Sends WLC To First NACC Win

Galindo scores twice for Warriors

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College used a six-goal scoring outburst in the second half to cruise to a 7-0 shutout win over Rockford on Saturday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Warriors Soccer Field. It marked the most goals scored by WLC since a 10-0 shutout over Lakeland on Sept. 19, 2018.

The Warriors (4-2-1, 1-0-1 NACC) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 5th minute from sophomore Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.), his first of the year. He was assisted by freshman Cole Luedke (Hartland, Wis.). The score remained that way for the rest of the first half as WLC out-shot Rockford 5-0 in the opening frame.

A Regents red card in the 51st minute of the second half opened the doors for Wisconsin Lutheran to pull away, as RU played a man down. Sophomore Andrew King (East Moline, Ill.) started the string of scores in the 51st minute with his first goal of the season, where he was assisted by fellow sophomore Francisco Espinoza Jr. (Sheboygan, Wis.). Freshman Rafael Galindo (Delavan, Wis.) knocked in a goal in the 63rd minute, assisted again by Luedke. Three minutes later, the Warriors scored again as sophomore Marco Sanchez-Flores (Racine, Wis.) put one into the back of the net, assisted by Espinoza Jr. Galindo, who was assisted by Cervantes, scored again in the 72nd minute to give WLC a 5-0 advantage. A Rockford own goal in the 74th minute and an unassisted goal by freshman Archer Chaudary (Lake Mills, Wis.) in the 87th minute sealed the win for the Warriors.

WLC out-shot RU 17-1, including 10-0 in shots on goal, and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Cervantes and Galindo led the team with three shots apiece. Luedke and Espinoza Jr. each contributed two assists.

Juan Sarmiento collected four saves and Ian Jurgensen tallied the lone shot for Rockford (1-6-0, 1-1-0 NACC).

Wisconsin Lutheran travels to Mequon on Wednesday to take on Concordia Wisconsin (0-4-2, 0-2-0 NACC) at 4 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
