MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College broke open a scoreless match at halftime with three second-half goals and held on for a 3-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday at Fitting Field.
The Warriors (5-2-1, 2-0-1 NACC) and Falcons played through a scoreless opening half with each team totaling eight shots. CUW held a slight 2-1 edge in shots on goal.
Junior
Jack Leffel (Germantown, Wis.) gave WLC 1-0 lead in the 54th minute when he converted the team's first penalty kick of the season following a CUW handball inside the box. Sophomore
Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.) made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute after he put away a rebounded shot from freshman
Cole Luedke (Hartland, Wis.). Six minutes later, sophomore
Andrew King (East Moline, Ill.)) capped off the scoring for Wisconsin Lutheran in the 69th minute with his second goal in as many games, assisted by freshman
Rolando Colin (Waukegan, Ill.).Â
CUW got on the board in the 81st minute with a goal from Carson Kelly, assisted by Harris Burgos. Vladimir Campos brought the hosts within one in the 87th minute, helped by Harris Burgos and Remy Stafford. Concordia Wisconsin nearly evened the contest in the 88th minute with a shot that hit off the top of the crossbar.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which out-shot the Falcons 26-20, received five shots each from Luedke and senior
Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.). Leffel, Cervantes, and King each tallied their second goal of the season, while Luedke provided his team-leading sixth assist of the year. Senior
Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) made a season-high six saves.Â
Alishan Sharipov recorded a match-high six shots for CUW (0-5-2, 0-3-0 NACC), which held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Enrique Torres made eight saves.
