WLC Comes Up Short Against CUW At Home

Zarling nets league-leading eighth goal of the season

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College couldn't recover from an early two-goal deficit in dropping a 2-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference decision to Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday at Warriors Soccer Field.

The Warriors (4-2-1, 1-1-1 NACC) fell behind 1-0 in the 4th minute of the match when the Falcons' Bella Rapp scored on an assist from Lanie Czerkies. CUW added its second tally in the 19th minute when Sheridan Dorge found the back of the net off an assist from Maya Bell. WLC, which trailed 2-0 at halftime, recorded six first-half shots compared to nine for Concordia Wisconsin.

Less than a minute into the second half, freshman Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.) cut the deficit in half with her league-leading eighth goal of the season, assisted by freshman Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.). Zarling nearly evened the contest in the 85th minute, but her shot slammed off the far right post. Wisconsin Lutheran was narrowly out-shot 9-6 in the second half.

Zarling recorded five of the Warriors' 12 shots in the contest. Shade was credited with her team-leading sixth assist of the season. Freshman Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) made a pair of second-half saves. Both teams committed just six fouls apiece.

Sheridan Dorge and Isabella Wentdorf collected four shots each for the Falcons (5-3-0, 3-0-0 NACC), who finished with 18 for the game. All five corner kicks in the match went in favor of CUW.

WLC travels to River Forest, Illinois on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. NACC clash with Concordia Chicago (6-3-1, 2-0-1 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
