Wisconsin Lutheran Suffers Second Straight One-Goal Setback

Blahnik scores first goal of the season for WLC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit for the second straight game, as it dropped a 2-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest to Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Concordia Stadium.

The Warriors (4-3-1, 1-2-1 NACC) fell behind 1-0 early when the Cougars' Natalie Flores scored unassisted in just the 3rd minute of the match. Three of WLC's four first-half shots landed on frame, but were stopped by CUC goalkeeper Brooke Sheriff. The score remained 1-0 in favor of Concordia Chicago at halftime.

The Cougars' Pamela Saldivar converted a penalty kick four minutes into the second half to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage. Three minutes later, freshman Joleigh Blahnik (De Pere, Wis.) finished off a rebound inside the box for her first collegiate goal. Wisconsin Lutheran out-shot CUC 5-2 the rest of the way, but was unable to find the equalizer.

For the game, the Warriors controlled the shot count, 11-8, and corner kicks, 5-1. Senior Ella Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led WLC with a match-high three shots.

Sheriff made seven saves for Concordia Chicago (7-3-1, 3-0-1 NACC), which committed 14 fouls to just four for Wisconsin Lutheran.

The Warriors play their final non-conference match of the season on Friday at Mount Mary (1-6-1). Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
