Warriors Run Win Streak To Four, Stay Unbeaten In League Play

Shutout gives squad best 10-game start in Luedke era

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College extended its unbeaten streak to five straight matches, including four straight victories, following a 2-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Concordia Stadium.

The Warriors (7-2-1, 3-0-1 NACC), who are off to their best conference start through four games since 2007, picked up their sixth shutout of the season.

Sophomore Hector Cervantes (Milwaukee, Wis.) put WLC on the board in the 16th minute of the opening half when he ripped a ball from 33 yards away into the top right corner. Senior Tony Bedolla (Joliet, Ill.) provided his second assist of the season on the eventual game-winning score.

Wisconsin Lutheran held a 1-0 lead at halftime, despite being edged 5-4 by the Cougars in shots. The Warriors, however, tallied the only three shots on goal in the first half.

Both sides placed a pair of shots on target in the second half, and it was WLC's second attempt that paid dividends. Sophomore Marco Sanchez-Flores (Racine, Wis.) netted his second goal of the season in the 83rd minute, receiving a pass from senior Titus Kostrzewa (Wauwatosa, Wis.) and serving it over a charging CUC keeper from 19 yards out.

Bedolla and Cervantes recorded two shots apiece for Wisconsin Lutheran, which was narrowly out-shot 10-8 by Concordia Chicago. Senior Puma Galvan (Racine, Wis.) stopped a pair of shots to post his second clean sheet of the season. The goal by Cervantes was his team-leading third of the season, while Kostrzewa was credited with his team-leading third assist.

Michael Senese totaled a match-high three shots for the Cougars (1-7-0, 0-4-0 NACC).

The Warriors have a week off before they host Edgewood (7-1-1, 3-0-0 NACC) on Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
