Freshmen Shine In WLC's Home-Opening Win Over MLC

All four goals, assists courtesy of rookie class

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Four freshmen combined to score and assist on all four scores for Wisconsin Lutheran College in a 4-1 non-conference win over Martin Luther on Sunday at Warriors Soccer Field.

Freshman Morgan Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) netted her second goal of the season nearly a minute before halftime to give the Warriors (2-1-0) a 1-0 lead. Freshman Emily Comaris (Milwaukee, Wis.) provided the assist on the opening score.

Six minutes into the second half, freshman Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.) tallied her second goal of the season off an assist from freshman Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.). Zarling returned the favor six minutes later in the 57th minute when she assisted on Shade's second goal of the 2024 campaign. The duo connected again nearly 30 seconds later as Zarling netted her second goal of the contest, again from Shade for the four-goal advantage.

Katie Schoeneck scored for the Knights (1-2-1) in the 89th minute to deny WLC the clean sheet.

Wisconsin Lutheran out-shot MLC 40-1 and had a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Zarling and junior Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.) recorded eight shots apiece to lead the offensive attack. Sophomore Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) earned the win without facing a shot in the first half.

The Warriors continue their brief two-game homestand on Friday when they host Beloit (0-3-1) at 7 p.m. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
