Ryan Broeckel (Chilton, Wis.) scored a season-high 25 points and 17th-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran College allowed the fewest points to an opponent in 18 years behind a 76-48 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over previously undefeated Marian on Saturday at Time of Grace Center.
The Warriors (11-1, 4-1 NACC), who last allowed 48 points to an opponent on January 20, 2007, handed the Sabres their first loss of the season.
MU jumped out to a 7-2 lead over WLC three minutes in, but Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a 10-0 scoring run that forced the visitors to take their first timeout at the 12:33 mark. Another 12-2 run by the Warriors pushed their lead to a first-half best 13 points at 24-11 following a three-pointer from freshman
Sam Hans (Hartland, Wis.) with 7:29 remaining. Marian answered with its own 10-2 scoring run to trim its deficit down to just five points. The Sabres came within four points within the final minute of the first half, but a pair of free throws from graduate
Jacob Stoltz (Kewaskum, Wis.) and a dunk from senior
AJ Vos (Lombard, Ill.) put WLC in front by eight points, 34-26, at halftime.
