Scarlet Hawks Rally Past Warriors In Second Half

Ramirez Pabon nets third goal of the season for WLC

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a 2-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference decision to Illinois Tech on Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field. The Scarlet Hawks (7-5-2, 4-3-1 NACC) scored twice in the final 35 minutes to erase a one-goal deficit and edge the Warriors (2-9-3, 1-4-2 NACC).

After a scoreless first half, freshman Jesus Ramírez Pabon (Milwaukee, Wis.) put WLC ahead 1-0 with an unassisted strike in the 55th minute, his third goal of the season. IIT answered just four minutes later when Mateo Secaira netted his 10th goal of the year off an assist from Paul Balea at 58:36. Illinois Tech tallied the eventual game-winner in the 85th minute as Tomas Rebelatto scored unassisted to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.

The Scarlet Hawks finished with an 18-11 edge in shots and a 4-4 tie in corner kicks. IIT's Rebelatto led all players with four shots, while Secaira added two shots and a goal. Ramírez Pabon paced Wisconsin Lutheran with three shots, followed by sophomore Rafael Galindo (Delavan, Wis.), junior Aydan Scortino (Pewaukee, Wis.), and junior Drew Guess (Valparaiso, Ind.) with two apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Owen Gault (Moline, Ill.) made four saves for the Warriors in the full 90 minutes. Illinois Tech split time in net between Colin Thomas and David Rodriguez, who combined for three saves, with Rodriguez earning the win in the second half.

WLC continues conference play on Wednesday when it travels to Aurora (7-3-3, 6-1-1 NACC) for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
