RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College erased a two-goal first-half deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Concordia Chicago in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday at Concordia Stadium.
The host Cougars (3-10-3, 3-4-2 NACC) took a 2-0 lead midway through the opening half. Erika Flores opened the scoring in the 12th minute off an assist from Natalie Flores, who later doubled the lead in the 21st minute by converting a penalty kick.
The Warriors (7-4-2, 4-3-2 NACC) responded in the 39th minute when sophomore
Payton Schiebel (St. Charles, Minn.) netted her first goal of the season to trim the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime. WLC continued to push in the second half and found the equalizer in the 84th minute when sophomore
Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season, assisted by sophomores
Emma Adema (Sheboygan, Wis.) and
Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.).
CUC outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 17-10 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Adema and Scheibel led the Warriors with three shots, with Scheibel and
Ava Zarling placing two shots on frame. Sophomore
Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) made three saves in the second half for WLC, while junior
Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) stopped one shot in the opening period.
Flores led all players with five shots (two on goal) for Concordia Chicago. Brooke Sheriff finished with three saves.
