WLC Clinches NACC Tournament Berth Despite 4-1 Loss To Dominican

Shade scores sixth goal of the season for Warriors

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College fell 4-1 to Dominican on Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action, but the Warriors still clinched a NACC Tournament berth for the second straight season.

The Stars (10-5-1, 8-3-0 NACC) struck twice early to take control. Meghan Wilhite converted a penalty kick in the 7th minute before adding an unassisted tally in the 20th minute for a 2-0 lead. DU extended its advantage to 3-0 when Sierra Rioux scored unassisted in the 52nd minute.

WLC (7-5-3, 4-4-3 NACC) broke through in the 80th minute when sophomore Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) netted her sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick. Less than a minute later, Wilhite completed her hat trick with her third goal of the match in the 80th minute to seal the final margin.

Dominican outshot Wisconsin Lutheran 14-5 and held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks. Shade, senior Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.), sophomore Alaena Zastrow (De Pere, Wis.), and sophomore Emily Comaris (Milwaukee, Wis.) each recorded a shot on goal for the Warriors. Sophomore Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) made two saves in 61 minutes of action for WLC, while junior Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) stopped two shots in relief.

Wilhite led all players with four shots and three goals for the Stars. Gianna Stanek collected three saves for DU.

Despite the setback, Wisconsin Lutheran clinched a berth in the NACC Tournament for the second consecutive year. The Warriors close out the regular season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Edgewood (13-4-1, 9-2-0 NACC) at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
