Warriors Sweep Rockford For Third NACC Win

WLC posts second-highest hitting percentage of the season

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College earned its second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory on Saturday, sweeping Rockford 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-21) at Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (7-10, 3-1 NACC) jumped ahead quickly in set one with an early 9-4 advantage behind four kills from senior Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.). After the Regents closed within 12-8, WLC responded with a 6-1 scoring run and closed the frame on a kill from Biggin for the 25-16 win.

Set two saw Wisconsin Lutheran's offense hit a match-best .444 as Biggin and senior Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) combined for 11 kills in the stanza. The Warriors used a 7-1 stretch midway through the set to pull away and never look back, cruising to a 25-15 victory.

RU (2-8, 1-2 NACC) put up its toughest challenge in set three, erasing a 17-14 deficit with a 4-0 run to take an 18-17 lead. But WLC responded with three kills from senior Emily Marohn (Reedsville, Wis.) and two from sophomore Elexa Varden (Dixon, Ill.) and closed the match on a 8-3 run to secure the 25-21 decision.

Biggin paced Wisconsin Lutheran with 16 kills, while Wigley and Marohn added 13 kills each. Marohn hit a team-high .400 with a career-best 13 kills. Freshman Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis) and sophomore Hannah Rood (Burnsville, Minn.) combined for 40 assists, and freshman Brooke Bartelt (West Bend, Wis.) collected a match- and season-high 18 digs.

Rockford was led by Ashley Miller with seven kills, while Isabella Valdes contributed 10 assists. Keara Ross added a team-high nine digs.

As a team, the Warriors hit .298 with 50 kills and 46 assists, while holding the Regents to a .069 attack percentage and just 16 kills.
