PEORIA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College opened its 2025 season with a pair of losses on Thursday at the Mount Mary Collegiate Slugger Series. The Warriors fell 4-0 to Loras and 5-0 to No. 23 UW-Stevens Point at Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.
The Duhawks broke a scoreless opening game with three unearned runs in the top of the third inning on three hits. WLC threatened in its half of the third with two hits, but stranded a runner in scoring position on an inning-ending double-play. LC tallied its fourth and final run in the fourth after stringing together three straight two-out singles.
Sophomores
Madison Heller (South Milwaukee, Wis.),
Alea Anhalt (Fond du Lac, Wis.),
Sommer Krull (New London, Wis.), and
Julianna Alloy (Harrison Township, Mich.) each had one hit for Wisconsin Lutheran (0-2). Senior
Melissa Tonn (West Allis, Wis.) fanned four across 5.1 innings in the circle.Â
For Loras (1-0), Gillian Jones went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Rachel Peat struckout seven over 5.0 innings.Â
The Pointers picked up a pair of first-inning runs with a leadoff homerun and sacrifice fly for an early game two advantage. The Warriors loaded the bases with just one out in the second, but UWSP escaped any damage with a pair of strikeouts. Stevens Point held a slim two-run lead until the bottom of the fifth when it tallied three runs on three hits.Â
Alloy and freshman
Maritza Martinez (Kenosha, Wis.) recorded one hit apiece for WLC. Freshman
Kieghtan Rank (Madison, Wis.) allowed two runs in 4.0 innings of her collegiate debut.Â
Rachel Baker went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Kodi Rizzo fanned 10 batters in 6.0 innings in the circle for the No. 23 Pointers (1-0).
Wisconsin Lutheran plays two more games indoors next Saturday when it travels to the UW-Oshkosh Invitational for matchups with No. 4 UW-Oshkosh (0-0) and UW-Superior (0-0) at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively, at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex.
