Duhawks Down Warriors In Opening Weekend Finale

Hodgins leads WLC with two hits

RANTOUL, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College concluded its opening weekend with a 15-2 defeat to Loras on Sunday at Rantoul Family Sports Complex.

The Duhawks (4-3) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch, but junior Storm Portsche (Lincoln, Neb.) stranded the bases loaded with a lineout to the mound. LC added three runs in the second on three consecutive two-out hits before tallying a pair in the third to extend its lead 6-0.

Loras scored four more in the fifth inning and five runs in the seventh before the Warriors got on the scoreboard in the final frame with a pair of runs. Freshman Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.) started the rally with a double, followed by a pair of walks to load the bases. Pierquet scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Ian Rintelman (Muskego, Wis.) to get the scoring started before junior Eli Michaelis (Wauwatosa, Wis.) scored on a Duhawks fielding error.

Senior Nolan Hodgins (Caledonia, Wis.) led WLC offensively with a 2-for-2 performance. Pierquet added a double and a stolen base. Senior Will Tucholski (Geneva, Ill.) stranded a pair of hits in 1.1 scoreless innings in relief.

Daniel Giusto earned the win for LC in 6.0 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Trevor Segraves and Cody Sunny added three-hit efforts for Loras, which tallied 15 hits in the contest.

Wisconsin Lutheran kicks off its spring break trip next Sunday when it travels to Fort Myers, Florida, for the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with a doubleheader against Skidmore (0-1-1) at 1:and 4 p.m. ET at Terry Park Sports Complex.
