Wisconsin Lutheran Stymied By Stars’ Pitching In NACC Twinbill

Warriors suffer fourth straight setback

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College was held without a run on 10 combined hits in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference sweep to Dominican on Saturday at Wintrust Field. The Stars defeated the Warriors by scores of 6-0 and 3-0.

GAME 1
WLC loaded the bases with one out in the first inning, but DU escaped any damage with consecutive strikeouts. Dominican struck for single tallies in each of its first three frames. Back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth put the Stars ahead 5-0 and a sacrifice fly in the eighth accounted for the final runs of the opener. After going four innings without a runner in scoring position, Wisconsin Lutheran placed a runner on second in both the seventh and eighth innings but was unable to crack the scoring column.

Freshman Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.) went 2-for-5 for the Warriors, while four other players posted one hit each. Freshman Malachi Kramer (Appleton, Wis.) tossed a scoreless relief inning for WLC.

Zach Helein was 3-for-4 with a run scored for DU. Ethan Buckner tossed a scoreless 7.0 innings and struckout five to pickup the win on the mound.

GAME 2
Dominican used RBI singles in the first and third inning to take an early lead over Wisconsin Lutheran, which was held hitless through the first four frames. The Stars scored their third run of the contest in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly. The Warriors had runners in scoring position with one out in each of the final three frames, but DU avoided any runs crossing the plate.

Sophomore Colt Ratliff (Oxford, Ga.), who was one of four players to record a hit, reached base twice in the game for WLC. Senior Matt Brissette (Mukwonago, Wis.) allowed three runs over 8.0 innings in his fifth start of the season.

Quinton Schwartz went 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored for Dominican (14-16, 6-10 NACC). CJ Kalekas threw a complete game shutout, striking out nine and allowing four hits.

Wisconsin Lutheran (13-16, 8-8 NACC) plays its final non-conference game of the season on Monday, traveling to Ripon (11-17) for a 3 p.m. first pitch. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
