WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College started its 2025 women's soccer campaign on a winning note Friday, defeating Ripon 2–1 in non-conference action at Warriors Soccer Field.
The Warriors (1-0-0) controlled much of the first half, outshooting the Red Hawks 10–1 before breaking through in the 20th minute. Sophomore
Emma Adema (Sheboygan, Wis.) netted the opening goal of the season at the 19:56 mark, finishing a setup from sophomore
Ginny Shade (Thornton, Colo.) for a 1–0 WLC lead. Wisconsin Lutheran continued to generate chances, forcing RC goalkeeper Britt Hable into three first-half saves as the score remained 1-0 heading into halftime.
Ripon (0-1-0) struck quickly after the break, leveling the score in the 47th minute when Cielo Gutierrez slotted home a rebound from Addison Misner to make it 1–1. The tie lasted less than two minutes. In the 49th minute, the Warriors earned a penalty kick, and sophomore
Alaena Zastrow (De Pere, Wis.) converted from the spot to restore the lead at 2–1.
WLC outshot the Red Hawks 16–3 on the night and held a 5–1 edge in corner kicks. RC's best chance to equalize came in the 85th minute, but Rebecca Roszel's attempt was saved by Wisconsin Lutheran junior keeper
Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.), who earned her first win of the season with one save.
Adema and Zastrow recorded the goals for the Warriors, while Shade tallied an assist and a match-high four shots. Gutierrez scored Ripon's lone goal with Misner adding the helper.
