Firebirds Strike Fast To Foil WLC’s Unbeaten Start

Warriors next host Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday

KENOSHA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered its first setback of the 2025 season on Saturday, falling 3-0 in non-conference action to Carthage at Art Keller Stadium.

The host Firebirds (3-3-1) struck quickly, opening the scoring in the sixth minute when Malie Cassel converted off an assist from Peyton Olinski. Just over six minutes later, Ashley Gorder doubled Carthage's advantage with an unassisted tally. The Warriors (2-1-0) managed just one first-half shot as the Firebirds carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

WLC responded with more pressure in the second half, generating six shots and two corner kicks. Despite the improved attack, Carthage added an insurance goal in the 66th minute when Ruby Hillegass found the back of the net.

Wisconsin Lutheran finished with seven shots, including four on goal, led by two attempts from senior Brooke Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.). Five other players added one shot apiece. Junior goalkeeper Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) made four saves in 90 minutes of action. Carthage held a 16-7 advantage in shots and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Warriors host Maranatha Baptist (0-2-0) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Warriors Soccer Field. Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
