DE PERE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener on Wednesday, falling 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23) to St. Norbert at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Warriors (2-8, 0-1 NACC) and Green Knights (9-4, 1-0 NACC) traded points early in the opening set before SNC used an 8-2 run to pull away for a 25-16 win. In set two, WLC erased an early 8-2 deficit and briefly took the lead at 9-8 after a kill and service ace from senior
Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.). St. Norbert answered with an 8-1 run to regain control and close out the frame 25-19. Wisconsin Lutheran nearly forced a fourth set, rallying late in the third to cut a 23-18 deficit to 24-23, but a final Green Knights kill sealed the sweep.
Senior
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) led the Warriors with 10 kills in addition to 11 digs, while Biggin added nine kills and 11 digs. Freshman
Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) tallied a match-best 25 assists along with 10 digs for a double-double, and senior
Emily Marohn (Reedsville, Wis.) recorded a match-high 12 digs.
The Green Knights were paced by Casey Vaughan's 10 kills, Heidi Colburn registered a match-high 15 assists, while Kara Sowinski chipped in 12 digs. SNC also held a decisive 10-2 advantage in blocks.
