Zastrow’s Second-Half Goal Lifts WLC Past Benedictine

Sophomore scores team-leading fourth goal of the season

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Alaena Zastrow's (De Pere, Wis.) second-half strike proved to be the difference as Wisconsin Lutheran College earned a 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory over Benedictine (IL) on Saturday at Warriors Soccer Field.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Zastrow broke through in the 62nd minute with her team-leading fourth goal of the season. The sophomore midfielder put away an unassisted effort to give the Warriors (5-2-0, 2-1-0 NACC) the only goal they would need.

WLC held a 13-7 advantage in shots, including a 7-4 edge in the second half. Zastrow paced Wisconsin Lutheran with a match-high four shots, three of which were on frame. Sophomores Ava Zarling (Jackson, Wis.) and Teagan O'Neil (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) each registered multiple shots. Kailyn Knudson led the Eagles (1-8-0, 1-2-0 NACC) with two shots, including one on target.

In goal, the Warriors split time between junior Kallista Street (Kenosha, Wis.) and sophomore Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.), who combined for four saves and the clean sheet. Schroeder made two saves in the second half to secure the win. BenU keeper Marissa Amador stopped four shots in the loss.

WLC travels to Plymouth on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. NACC match against Lakeland (0-7-1, 0-4-0 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
