ATLANTA, Ga. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran came up short in its first-ever meeting with Oglethorpe on Friday, falling 3-0 to the Stormy Petrels in non-conference action at Oglethorpe Soccer Field.
The hosts jumped ahead quickly when Owen VanMarter struck in the 7th minute off a feed from Angelo Nkosi. VanMarter doubled the advantage just 11 minutes later, finishing a chance created by Anthony Rouse and Nkosi. The Warriors (1-2-1) kept the scoreline at 2-0 at halftime behind a trio of saves from sophomore goalkeeper
Aaron Lambert (Green Bay, Wis.).
Wisconsin Lutheran responded with more possession and chances after halftime, tallying four shots. Oglethorpe (2-1-1) put the match away in the 81st minute when Jackson Biggs finished a pass from Kaden Greenfield to make it 3-0. Biggs led the team with a match-best four shots.
The Warriors' defense weathered 18 total shots, with Lambert recording five saves before being relieved late. Sophomores
Chris Aparicio (Des Plaines, Ill.) and
Rafael Galindo (Delavan, Wis.) each registered two shots to lead WLC's attack, while the team earned its only corner in the second half.
