MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College collected a split at its home-opening quadrangular on Friday at Time of Grace Center. The Warriors dropped a back-and-forth five-set match against Monmouth (IL) in the opener, before taking the final three sets of a four-set win over Illinois College.
WLC came up short in its first home contest of the season to the Fighting Scots by scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-4. Senior
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) racked up a career-high 22 kills, which ties for eighth all-time. Senior
Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) added 10 kills. Freshman
Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) collected her second double-double of the young season with 28 assists and 14 digs. Senior
Emily Marohn (Reedsville, Wis.) amassed a career-best 20 digs, while sophomore
Lorelai Gallo (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) also reached a career-high 19 digs.Â
Three players posted double-doubles for Monmouth (2-2), led by Kaylee Celus' 16 kills, Bailey Hill's 21 assists, and Zoe Nizzia and Leah Allan with 21 digs each.
Wisconsin Lutheran recovered from a first-set loss to the Lady Blues (2-2) to win in four by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18. Biggin led the Warriors with a match-high 13 kills, Charbonneau added 23 assists and a match-high fiver service aces, while Gallo, Marohn, and Wigley had three service aces each. Sophomore
Elexa Varden (Dixon, Ill.) posted five block assists, and Wigley led the way with 12 digs. WLC finished the match with 19 service aces, which rank fifth all-time.
Alyssa Burglund had eight kills and five solo blocks, and Mady Salisbury 18 digs for Illinois College.
