WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College pushed Loras to the brink but fell 3-2 in a non-conference thriller on Saturday at Time of Grace Center.
The Duhawks (2-4) opened strong with a 25-12 win in the first set, taking advantage of a match-high .381 hitting percentage compared to the Warriors' second-lowest of the match (.130).
WLC (2-4) responded in emphatic fashion during the second frame, hitting .440 with 12 kills and just one error to power a 25-12 victory to even the match.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle, but Loras closed on a late run to edge WLC 25-22. Wisconsin Lutheran forced a decisive fifth by dominating set four 25-12, with seniors
Kayla Wigley (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Lydia Biggin (Burlington, Wis.) combining for nine kills while freshman setter
Lauren Charbonneau (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) dished out 13 assists.
In the deciding set, Loras pulled away late behind key kills from Patrycja Jarzabek, clinching the match 15-12.
Biggin paced the Warriors with a match-high 14 kills on .345 hitting, while Wigley added 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double. Charbonneau registered 35 assists and sophomore
Lorelai Gallo (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) anchored the back row with 14 digs. Senior
Emily Marohn (Reedsville, Wis.) served up six of the team's 16 aces.
Autumn Finch led the Duhawks with nine kills, while Alyssa Daughenbaugh added 24 assists and Lucie Lambe tallied 17 digs.
WLC continues its homestand on Wednesday when it hosts Carroll (4-4) for a 6 p.m. non-conference match at Time of Grace Center.
