VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College wrapped up its season-opening weekend with a perfect 4-0 record following a pair of non-conference wins over Geneva and host Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at TowneBank Arena.
The Warriors (4-0) picked up a 3-1 victory over Geneva (3-4) in their first match of the day by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 19-25, 27-25. WLC, which hit .305 in the match, received at least one kill from 13 different players.
Senior
Drew Wempner (West Allis, Wis.) and sophomore
Brady Pichler (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) led Wisconsin Lutheran with eight kills apiece, while freshman
Adonis Hilton (Rockford, Ill.) added seven. Wempner hit a match-high .615 without an error on 13 attempts. Freshman
David Warren (Brookfield, Wis.) tallied a match-high 22 assists. Pichler also served up six aces and had four total blocks. Freshman
Ryder Vogt (Manitowoc, Wis.) recorded a team-high six digs.
Aaron Villi registered 12 kills, 13 assists, and seven digs for the Golden Tornadoes. Andrew Ubinger recorded 21 assists.
The Warriors swept host Virginia Wesleyan (3-2) in their final contest of the day by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-14. WLC finished with a .354 hitting percentage, its second-highest in program history.
Pichler had a match-high 11 kills while sophomore
Noah Kern (Brookfield, Wis.) added 10 kills. Warren and freshman Adam Bedolav (Waukesha, Wis.) finished with 16 assists each. Wempner and junior
Josh Ward (Mukwonago, Wis.) each recorded a trio of blocks. Senior
Connor Haeuser (West Bend, Wis.) tallied a match-high nine digs for WLC.
JaMarhe Wills led the Marlins with 10 kills. Ajaye Davis finished with a match-high 26 assists and a team-high eight digs.
