Wisconsin Lutheran Falls To League Unbeaten Illinois Tech

Warriors remain on the road Wednesday at Aurora

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College suffered a 2-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference defeat to undefeated conference leader Illinois Tech on Saturday at Stuart Field.

The Scarlet Hawks (11-4-0, 8-0-0 NACC) struck early in the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead just 85 seconds into the match when Kayla Thomas netted her 10th goal of the season off an assist from Eva Narvarte.

IIT doubled its advantage in the 22nd minute as Grace Yager finished a feed from Leena Almeqbeli for her third goal of the year, giving the hosts a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.

The Warriors (9-3-0, 4-3-0 NACC) generated several quality chances throughout the contest, placing six of their seven shot attempts on target, but was unable to solve Illinois Tech's defense across the full 90 minutes.

The Scarlet Hawks held advantages over WLC in total shots (23-7), shots on goal (9-6), and corner kicks (7-2).

Junior Emma Adema (Sheboygan, Wis.) led Wisconsin Lutheran's attack with two total shots, including one on target. Five other Warriors – junior Ava Collyard (Richfield, Wis.), junior Morgan Bluhm (New Berlin, Wis.), freshman Gracie Schmidt (Cedar Grove, Wis.), junior Joleigh Blahnik (De Pere, Wis.), and junior Julia Ash (San Diego, Calif.) – tallied one shot on goal apiece. Junior goalkeeper Sam Schroeder (Brookfield, Wis.) went the distance between the posts for the Warriors, recording seven saves.

For IIT, Leyna Yonehara and Narvarte shared the team lead with four shots each, while Tvesa Vathulya and Kaitlyn Walsh added three shots apiece. In goal, starter Kayla Hampton earned the victory with five saves across nearly 81 minutes of action, and Chloe Lemanowicz stopped one shot over the final 9:11 to complete the combined clean sheet.
