JACKSON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College dropped a 5-2 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference decision to Concordia Chicago on Sunday at Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club.
The match opened with doubles play, where the Cougars secured the early advantage by winning two of three flights. At No. 1, CUC's Andres Villagran and Sam Smith defeated senior
Connor Heezen (Pulaski, Wis.) and junior
Cameron Borchert (Loveland, Colo.), 6-2. The Warriors answered at No. 2 doubles, as senior
TaDarion Perkins (Milwaukee, Wis.) and sophomore
Myles Harris (Milwaukee, Wis.) edged Collin Dickey and August Barnes in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4). However, Concordia Chicago claimed the doubles point with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 from Kevin Bullens and Kyle Pelzek over junior
Aidan Mattek (Appleton, Wis.) and freshman
Zach Nelson.
In singles competition, WLC earned wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Borchert delivered a strong performance at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Reynaldo Leal. At No. 3, Perkins battled through a three-set match, defeating Villagran 6-2, 4-6, 10-4.
The Cougars (1-11, 1-1 NACC) secured the team victory by taking the remaining four singles matches. Dickey posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Heezen at No. 1, while Smith (No. 4), Bullens (No. 5), and Barnes (No. 6) each won in straight sets.
Wisconsin Lutheran (0-8, 0-2 NACC) returns to action on Sunday, April 12, hosting Illinois Tech (6-5, 0-0 NACC) at 10:30 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club.
