Wisconsin Lutheran Drops Pair Of One-Run Games At Lakeland

WLC falls twice despite strong outings from Piven and Dinnauer

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College ended up on the wrong end of a pair of 1-0 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference pitcher's duels on Monday against Lakeland at Muskie Softball Field.

Game 1: Lakeland 1, Wisconsin Lutheran 0
The Warriors (11-13, 5-5 NACC) were limited to five hits and stranded six runners, including threats in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not break through against Muskies starter Natalie Ziebell.

LU (13-10-1, 5-3 NACC) pushed across the game's lone run in the bottom of the seventh. After a leadoff double and a pair of walks loaded the bases, Carlie Morrow drew a walk to force in the winning run.

Sophomore Kylie Gaston (Albertville, Minn.) led WLC at the plate, going 2-for-3, while junior Julianna Alloy (Harrison Township, Mich.), sophomore Maritza Martinez (Kenosha, Wis.), and freshman Peyton Crutcher (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) each added a hit. Sophomore Teagan Piven (Plainfield, Ill.) was strong in the circle for Wisconsin Lutheran, allowing one run on six hits over 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and five walks.

Lakeland finished with six hits, led by Morrow, who had a hit and the game-winning RBI, while Callie Linders, McKenzie Staudinger, Abby Heitman, Lexi Howard, and Sam Marchant each recorded a hit. Ziebell earned the complete-game shutout, scattering five hits over seven innings while walking four and striking out two.

Game 2: Lakeland 1, Wisconsin Lutheran 0
The Warriors were limited to four hits and left five runners on base in a tightly played pitcher's duel. WLC put together scoring opportunities in the second, sixth, and seventh innings but was unable to push a run across.

The Muskies broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. After a one-out single and a sacrifice advanced the runner into scoring position, Maddie Raske delivered an RBI single to right field to plate the game's only run.

Martinez led Wisconsin Lutheran at the plate, going 2-for-3, while freshmen Anna Bracke (Brookfield, Wis.) and Crutcher each added a hit. Sophomore Alyssa Dinnauer (Dousman, Wis.) turned in a strong performance in the circle for the Warriors, allowing one run on six hits over 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and no walks.

LU recorded six hits, led by Staudinger's 2-for-3 effort with a run scored. Raske finished with a hit and the game-winning RBI, while Linders, Heitman, and Kendyll Holub also tallied hits. Lily Pettit earned the complete-game shutout for Lakeland, scattering four hits over seven innings while walking one and striking out two.
