WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College rallied with a four-run fifth inning and held off a late push from Marian for a 6-5 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory on Wednesday at Neumann Family Field. The Sabres topped the Warriors 15-0 in eight innings in the opener to earn a split in the home finale.
Game 1: Marian 15, Wisconsin Lutheran 0 (8 Inn.)
The Sabres (13-22, 7-15 NACC) scratched across the game's first run in the fifth and then seized control with an eight-run sixth inning to build a 9-0 advantage. MU added six more runs in the eighth to complete the shutout victory.
The Warriors (10-28, 4-18 NACC) threatened early, putting a runner on third in the first after sophomore
Ryan Pierquet (Chilton, Wis.) led off the bottom of the inning with a double to center, but Marian starter Ian Dohms escaped the jam. WLC put together scoring opportunities in the fourth inning, highlighted by junior
Colt Ratliff's (Oxford, Ga.) double and senior
Zach Alburg's (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) single, but was unable to push a run across.
Senior
Jordan Bierdemann (Franklin, Wis.) kept the Sabres off the scoreboard through the first four innings before MU capitalized on a Wisconsin Lutheran error in the fifth to plate the first run. The visitors then strung together multiple hits in the sixth and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.
Senior
Lucas Oswald (Muskego, Wis.) paced the Warriors offensively with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Pierquet and Ratliff each doubled and finished with one hit apiece, while Alburg also added a single as WLC totaled five hits.
Marian was led by Ayden Kanaman, who went 5-for-6 with three RBIs and a triple, while Carter Scott finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Danny Santiago and Lucas Lemons each added three hits. Dohms earned the win, tossing eight shutout innings while allowing five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
Game 2: Wisconsin Lutheran 6, Marian 5
Wisconsin Lutheran collected 12 hits and erased an early 2-0 deficit after the Sabres struck first with two runs in the top of the third.
The Warriors answered in the bottom half of the inning when freshman
Dawsen Burington (Appleton, Wis.) singled and later scored on junior
Ian Rintelman's (Muskego, Wis.) RBI single to left, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
WLC took control in the fifth. Burington opened the frame with a single and came around to score on Rintelman's game-tying RBI single. After Ratliff reached, Oswald lined an RBI single through the left side to put Wisconsin Lutheran in front. Sophomore
Connor Zorn (Huntley, Ill.) then delivered the biggest hit of the day, a two-run double down the right-field line that plated Oswald and Ratliff for a 5-2 lead.
MU trimmed the margin to 5-3 with a run in the sixth, but the Warriors responded immediately in the bottom of the inning. Pierquet singled, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Rintelman's third RBI single of the contest to make it 6-3.
Marian made things interesting in the eighth, scoring twice on a pair of WLC miscues to close within 6-5, but senior
Austin Preiss (South Milwaukee, Wis.) shut the door. The senior right-hander struck out four over the final two innings and did not allow a hit to earn his first save of the season.
Rintelman led Wisconsin Lutheran at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Oswald also finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Burington went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Zorn added a two-RBI double as part of a 1-for-3 day. Sophomore
Malachi Kramer (Appleton, Wis.) earned the win, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits over 7.0 innings with five walks and three strikeouts.
For the Sabres, Zach Ennis scored three runs and went 1-for-2 with two walks, while Marc Jones drove in three runs on a 1-for-4 day.
The Warriors wrap up their 2026 season on Friday, May 1 when they travel to Mequon for a 1 p.m. NACC doubleheader against Concordia Wisconsin (17-19, 13-9 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
