Warriors Knock Off Spartans To Salvage Conference Split

Krull collects four hits for WLC

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College scored in back-to-back innings and made the lead stand up late to edge Aurora, 2-1, in the first game of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Neumann Family Field. The Spartans defeated the Warriors 11-2 in five innings in game two.

Game 1: Wisconsin Lutheran 2, Aurora 1
The Warriors (16-20, 8-12 NACC) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Julianna Alloy (Harrison Township, Mich.) led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Rebecca Reddeman (Canton, Mich.). Two batters later, junior Sommer Krull (New London, Wis.) delivered an RBI single to right that brought Alloy home for a 1-0 lead.

WLC added what proved to be the game-winning run in the fifth. Freshman Addyson Wheeler (Freeport, Ill.) opened the inning with a single and advanced to third after a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Peyton Crutcher (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Wheeler and extend the lead to 2-0.

The Spartans (24-12, 14-6 NACC) answered with a run in the sixth to cut the deficit in half, but Wisconsin Lutheran turned to sophomore Alyssa Dinnauer (Dousman, Wis.) out of the bullpen to preserve the lead. Dinnauer recorded the final three outs of the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh to earn her first save of the season.

Sophomore Teagan Piven (Plainfield, Ill.) earned the win for the Warriors, allowing one run on nine hits over 5.0 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Dinnauer tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, surrendering two hits.

Krull paced WLC offensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk and the game's first RBI. Wheeler also finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Alloy added a hit and scored once. Freshman Anna Bracke (Brookfield, Wis.) and Reddeman each contributed a hit in the victory.

AU was led at the plate by Mia Rivera, who went 2-for-4, and Stephani Debise, who also collected two hits. Aubrey Ortiz added a hit and drove in Aurora's lone run.

Game 2: Aurora 11, Wisconsin Lutheran 2 (5 Inn.)
The Spartans scored in four of the five innings, including a five-run fifth inning to pull away.

The visitors opened the scoring in the first, but Wisconsin Lutheran answered in the bottom half. Krull led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Katelyn Ruth (Canton, Mich.) to even the game at 1-1.

AU regained the lead with two runs in the second and added three more in the fourth to extend its advantage to 6-1.

The Warriors pushed across their second run in the fourth inning. Bracke and Alloy recorded singles before a two-out error allowed sophomore Natalie Jordan (Cincinnati, Ohio) to score, trimming the deficit to 6-2.

Aurora broke the game open in the fifth with five runs on six hits and an error to account for the final margin.

Krull led WLC at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Wheeler, Bracke, and Alloy each added a hit, while Ruth drove in a run.

For the Spartans, Rivera, Ortiz, Angie Delgado, and Debise each had three or more hits, with Debise and Nina Richards driving in three runs each. Rivera earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over five innings with no walks or strikeouts.

Wisconsin Lutheran remains home on Friday, May 1 for a 2 p.m. NACC doubleheader against Concordia Wisconsin (23-13, 14-6 NACC). Live coverage links can be found at WLCSports.com.
