MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
football team closed out the 2007 season with a 38-12 loss to Hope
College on Senior Day and Fan Appreciation Day Saturday afternoon
in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game at Raabe
Stadium.
Hope, which entered the game in a three-way tie for the MIAA
regular season with Alma and Olivet, scored first on a 52-yard
scoring pass from Jake Manning to Joey Goeb with 8:58 left in the
opening quarter for a 7-0 lead. A 33-yard field goal by Chris Bowen
at the 3:58 mark gave Hope a 10-0 lead after the first
quarter.
In the second quarter, Hope's David Booko rushed for one of his
three touchdowns on the day on a one-yard score, but was answered
by T.J. Bodnar (Racine, Wis./Park) who took one in himself from one
yard out with 7:48 left before halftime. The teams went into
halftime with Hope leading 17-6.
Trailing 24-6 heading into the final quarter, Eric Treske
(Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) would not be denied a touchdown in his
final game. Treske hauled in a 31-yard touchdown pass from Bodnar,
breaking a number of tacklers and dragging Flying Dutchmen with him
into the end zone. WLC trailed 24-12 with 14:12 left in the game.
The Flying Dutchmen added two more scores in the quarter for the
final 38-12 margin.
Bodnar completed 25 of 41 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown.
Treske caught six passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Wisconsin Lutheran, who forced five turnovers in the game, got
eight tackles each from Devin Reissing (Milwaukee, Wis./Luther
Preparatory), Micah Adams (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Jim Voss
(Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove).
Olivet receives the MIAA's automatic qualifier to the NCAA
playoffs. The Comets won the tiebreaker by defeating Hope last week
and Kalamazoo on Saturday.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which had 12 seniors suit up in their final
game, finishes its 2007 season with a 2-8 overall mark and 1-6 in
the MIAA. The Warriors, who will move into the Northern Athletics
Conference for football in 2008, open up their season on September
6 at Northwestern College (Minn.).
