MILWAUKEE - Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) poured in a career-high 27 points to lead
three players in double figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team defeated Cornell College, 88-80, on Saturday
night at the Recreation Complex, marking the first time since
2001-02 that WLC has started a season 2-0.
Plath scored 21 of his 27 points in the first half on seven of
nine from the floor. Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph)
recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and pulling down 10
rebounds. He made it to the charity stripe 18 times, sinking 14
free throws. Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
chipped in with 16 points, while Christian Lindberg (Horsens,
Denmark) finished with 10 rebounds.
The Warriors used a 14-0 first half run to hold a 43-40 lead at
the break. The Rams held a brief two point (45-43) lead early in
the second half, only to see it diminish for good at the 17:48
mark. Wisconsin Lutheran won the battle on the boards, 42-28, and
converted on 27 of 36 free throw attempts.
Riley Larson led Cornell (0-2) 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-0) is back in action next Friday when it
hosts Bethany Lutheran College at 8 p.m. in the second game of the
Wisconsin Classic. Concordia University Wisconsin and Carroll
College meet in the first game at 6 p.m.
