DUBUQUE, Iowa - Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) poured in a career-high 31 points to lead
the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team to an 85-80
comeback win over the Simpson College Storm on Saturday afternoon
in the second round of the Clarke College Holiday Tournament at the
Kehl Center.
Plath shot 11 of 18 from the floor, including 6 of 11 from
three-point range to lead two other players in double figures.
Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) and Christian Lindberg
(Horsens, Denmark) added 14 and 11, respectively.
Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) just missed a
triple-double as he tallied nine points, nine rebounds and eight
assists.
The Warriors tailed by as much as 13 points (30-17) in the first
half, but managed to cut the deficit to five points (42-37) at
halftime. WLC fought back to take the lead for good at the 12:41
mark of the second half on a Plath lay-up as the Warriors built an
11 points lead down the stretch.
For the game, the Warriors shot 48.4 percent (30-62), including
11-32 (34.4 percent) from beyond the arc. The Storm, meanwhile,
shot just 15 percent (3-20) from long distance.
Simpson (4-6) was led by Tim Dunlavy's 20 points and eight
rebounds. Wisconsin Lutheran is 3-0 against teams to the Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this season.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-3) moves on to face tournament-host Clarke
College in the championship game, which tips-off at 5:30 p.m. on
Monday. The Crusaders (6-7) defeated Valley City State (S.D.) 56-49
to earn their first-ever trip to the championship game in the
tournament's 11-year history.
