WATERTOWN, Wis. - Marcus Zondag (Randolph,
Wis./Randolph) scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed 11
rebounds to lead five players in double figures as the Wisconsin
Lutheran College men's basketball team defeated Maranatha Baptist
Bible College 99-87 on Tuesday night.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 58.7 percent (37-63) for the game,
including 60 percent (15-25) in the second half to improve to .500
in the Northern Athletics Conference.
Christian Lindberg (Horsens, Denmark) finished with 17 points on
7 of 8 shooting, while Nate Sorum (Mequon, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran)
added 14. Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and
Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) had 11 and 10
points, respectively.
The Crusaders scored the first four points of the game, but
Wisconsin Lutheran answered with an 11-1 run and led by as many as
23 in the first half before going into the locker room with a 51-31
advantage.
The Warriors opened the second half on a 6-0 run to lead by 26,
their largest margin of the game. The Crusaders were able to cut
the deficit to 10 points (84-74) at the 5:45 mark. However, WLC
came back with seven straight points which proved to seal the
victory.
Josh Burch led Maranatha Baptist (5-9, 2-6 NAC) with a game-high
31 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Mike Knepp added 28
points.
The Warriors shot 16 of 18 from the free-throw line and
out-rebounded Maranatha Baptist 34-24.
Wisconsin Lutheran (9-4, 3-3 NAC) remains on the road on
Saturday when it travels to Sheboygan to take on the Lakeland
College Muskies in a NAC showdown at 4:15 p.m.
