WHITEWATER, Wis. - Junior Zach Shiels (Johnson
Creek, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) broke the school record in the mile
run and placed sixth in the 3,000-meter run to pace the Wisconsin
Lutheran College track & field teams at the UW-Whitewater
Invitational on Saturday.
Shiels was responsible for all three points earned by the men's
team, who tied for 18th place with Aurora University and Beloit
College. The women did not compile a team score on the day.
Shiels finished 11th overall in the mile run with a
school-record time of 4:29.73. Later in the day, he ran an 8:56.34
in the 3,000-meter run, which placed him sixth overall.
Freshman John Torres (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) made his
collegiate debut in both the 55-meter hurdles and 55-meter dash. He
placed third in his heat in the hurdles with a time of 8.62.
Tyler Schroeder (Sparta, Wis./Bangor), a sophomore, ran his
first-ever 800-meter run in a time of 2:10.01. Blake Miller
(Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) competed in the 3,000-meter
run, finishing in 9:48.62.
Andrew Loescher (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Rick
LaFleur (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake) tossed the shot put 12.53
and 11.46 meters, respectively. LaFleur and Blaine Welch (Bonduel,
Wis./Bonduel) concluded the day for the Wisconsin Lutheran by
competing in the weight throw.
Emily Goss (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), who was the lone
athlete from the WLC women's team to compete on the day, placing
27th out of 48 in the shot put with a throw of 9.44 meters.
Wisconsin Lutheran is back in action next Saturday traveling to
Kenosha for the Carthage College Tadd Metzger Invitational
beginning at 11 a.m.
