MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
women's soccer team had six players score at least one goal en
route to a 9-1 win over Alverno College on Wednesday in a Northern
Athletics Conference match at Warrior Field.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which netted four first half goals, led 6-0
before Alverno got on the scoreboard with just less than 10 minutes
gone by in the second half.
Sophomore Megan Mawhinney (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union)
sparked Wisconsin Lutheran by recording a hat trick and adding two
assists on six shot attempts. Ashley Poetter (Federal Way,
Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) finished with two goals on five shots
attempted, all of which were on goal.
Ally Dunavant (Hartford, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran), a
sophomore, along with freshmen Mary Kolterjahn (Sturgeon Bay,
Wis./Sturgeon Bay), Trish Mahnke (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) and Erin Mathiak (Slinger, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
each added goals to round-out the scoring for the Warriors.
Dunavant and Mahnke each finished with a game-high eight shot
attempts. WLC finished with 42 shots in the game, including 26 in
the opening half. Goalkeeper Katie Sloan (Omaha, Neb./Nebraska
Lutheran) made three saves in the contest for the Warriors.
Alverno (2-8, 0-5 NAC) finished the match with six shot
attempts.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-10, 2-4 NAC) hosts NAC foe Lakeland
College on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
