MEQUON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team was defeated by the Carroll University
Pioneers 104-94 in the first game of the Wisconsin Classic on
Friday evening at the John Buuck Fieldhouse.
Wisconsin Lutheran shot 50 percent from the floor in the first
half, including 53.3 percent from three-point range, but went into
the locker room trailing 57-50 at the half. Carroll closed out the
opening half shooting 52.6 percent from the floor.
The Warriors got within one point (61-60) at the 16:52 mark of
the second half, but would get no closer as the Pioneers extended
their lead to as many as 11 points at two different times during
the half.
Junior forward Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) poured in a career-high 22 points to pace five players in
double figures for Wisconsin Lutheran. Kyle Madson (Madison,
Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for
a double-double.
Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) scored 13
points, while Jeremy Burmeister (Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran)
and Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) each added
11.
WLC finished the game shooting 48.5 percent (33-68), while
Carroll shot 48.6 percent (34-70). The Pioneers converted on 24 of
28 free throw attempts, while the Warriors went 15-for-20 from the
charity stripe.
John Hoch finished with 22 points and 10 assists to lead five
players in double figures for Carroll (2-2).
Wisconsin Lutheran (1-3) will play Luther College (0-2) on
Saturday at 2 p.m. in its final game of the Wisconsin Classic in
Mequon. Luther was defeated by host Concordia University Wisconsin
67-52 in Friday's second game.
