AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team was defeated by two-time defending conference
champion Aurora University 106-91 on Tuesday in the Northern
Athletics Conference opener for both teams at the Thornton
Gymnasium.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which missed its first eight shot attempts,
fell behind 14-0 early in the first half and could never fully
recover. The Warriors got within five points, 28-23, at the 6:39
mark, but the Spartans extended their lead back to 11 points,
50-39, at halftime.
Aurora opened the second half on a 9-2 run for an 18-point lead,
but the Warriors answered back with an 11-2 run of their own to
trim the deficit back down to nine points, 61-52, with 16:05 to
play. WLC got as close as five points on three different occasions
throughout the second half, but just couldn't seem to get over the
hump.
Junior Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
poured in a career-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead
Wisconsin Lutheran. Seniors Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland
Lutheran) and Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran)
scored 19 and 12 points, respectively.
The Warriors shot 42.1 percent (32-76) from the floor, compared
to a scorching 55.7 percent (39-70) for Aurora. AU finished a
perfect 17-for-17 from the charity stripe, while WLC went
12-for-16.
Chad Trudo scored a career-high 32 points to lead four players
in double figures for the Spartans (2-4, 1-0 NAC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-4, 0-1 NAC) returns to the hardwood on
Saturday, December 13 when it travels to Rockford College for a
4:15 p.m. tip-off with the Regents.
