MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team erupted for 118 points, the third-highest
total in school history, to cruise past the Rockford College
Regents 118-82 on Tuesday in a Northern Athletics Conference game
at the Recreation Complex.
Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) scored
19 points off the bench to lead five players in double figures for
WLC. Marcus Zondag (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) and Nate Sorum
(Mequon, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) finished with 18 points
apiece.
Danny Behm (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) added 17,
while Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) chipped in
with 14.
The Warriors used a 20-0 run toward the end of the first half to
take a 69-35 lead into halftime. WLC shot 64.1 percent (25-39) from
the floor in the half, including 50 percent from three-point
range.
WLC remained hot from the floor in the second half, shooting
47.6 percent (20-42). Eleven of the 13 players that dressed for the
Warriors reached the scoring column as no player registered more
than 22 minutes in the game.
Wisconsin Lutheran, which currently ranks sixth in Division III
in scoring offense, has scored at least 100 points five times this
season, including three out of its last four games. The 118 points
scored in the game is the most put up by the Warriors since
they scored 129 against Emmaus Bible College on December 5,
1992.
WLC dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Regents 48-26,
including a 16-4 advantage on the offensive glass.
Rockford (0-22, 0-15 NAC), which had three players finish in
double figures, was led by Ed Thomas' game-high 30 points.
Wisconsin Lutheran (16-5, 10-4 NAC) travels to Aurora University
on Thursday at 7 p.m. for a showdown with the NAC-leading
Spartans.
