KENOSHA, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's track & field team finished fourth, while the women
placed sixth out of nine teams on Friday at the NAC Indoor
Championship at the Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center at
Carthage College.
Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was named
men's Track Athlete of the Meet. Shiels, a junior, won both the
3000 and 5000-meter runs and placed third in the mile run.
Rick LaFleur (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake) improved his school
record in the 35lb weight with a toss of 13.72 meters, for a
sixth-place finish. Placing sixth in the shot put, freshman Andrew
Loescher (Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) broke the school
record with a throw of 13.66 meters.
Sophomore Ryan Timm (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
matched his finish from a year ago by placing third in the 55-meter
dash with a time of 6.78.
John Torres (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) narrowly missed the
55-meter hurdle school record by .05 seconds, running a 8.37, which
was good for a sixth place finish. WLC tallied 67 points on the
men's side.
The MSOE Raiders won the men's championship with a team score of
163.5, 43 points better than runner-up Aurora University. The
Raiders captured titles in five events including the 200 meter
dash, 400 meter dash, 55 meter hurdles, 4x400 meter relay, and
triple jump.
The women's team finished sixth with a total of 32 points on the
day. Emily Goss (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) improved her
school record in the 20lb weight with a toss of 11.90 meters,
finishing in fifth place.
Deva Monson-Dupuis (Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) broke the
400-meter dash record running 66.41. She also placed fourth in the
800-meter run with a time of 2:37.
Laurie Dexter (New London, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) defended
her conference pole vault crown from a season ago, winning with a
height of 2.45 meters.
Concordia University Wisconsin tallied 193 points to claim the
women's championship. The Falcons won three events which included
the 400 meter dash, 4x400 meter relay, and the triple jump.
A total of four school records were broken on the day and 20
personal bests were set.
Wisconsin Lutheran will be back in action on Friday when it
competes in the UW-Whitewater Last Chance Invitational at 11
a.m.
