Warriors drop season opener to Wartburg

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team suffered an 11-1 loss to Wartburg College to open its 2008 season at Disney's Baseball Spring Training on Sunday.

The Knights took an early 2-0 lead in the first after two consecutive strikeouts by Warrior starting pitcher John Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia).

Second baseman Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) scored Wisconsin Lutheran's only run in the bottom of the fifth inning off Chris Glasel's (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) double to right field.

Wartburg College posted nine more runs on four multiple-run innings to make the final tally 11-1.

Edlhuber led WLC by going 2-for-3 at the plate and scoring a run.

Lynch suffered the loss with 3.1 innings pitched. He recorded four strikeouts, 11 hits and seven earned runs.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-1) plays its second game of the doubleheader against Wartburg today.
