RIPON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's and women's track & field teams finished third and
fourth, respectively, at the Ripon College Sherman-Lukoski
Invitational on Saturday.
Wisconsin Lutheran was scheduled to host its own Warrior
Invitational, but poor conditions forced the team to change plans
and head north to compete at Ripon.
The Warrior men placed third out of seven teams with a total of
115 points. Michigan Tech placed second with 133, while host Ripon
College took home the men's team title with 242 points.
Junior Rick LaFleur (Random Lake, Wis./Random Lake) placed first
in the hammer throw and set a new school record with a toss of
42.66 meters, an improvement of over two meters from the record he
set last season. Teammate Andrew Loescher (Jackson, Wis./Kettle
Moraine Lutheran) placed second in the same event with a toss of
37.91 meters.
Loescher also placed second in the shot put with a throw of
12.79 meters.
Making his collegiate debut in the javelin throw, freshman Nate
Rosenberg (Hortonville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) won the event
with a toss of 42.53 meters. Fellow teammate and mentor Blaine
Welch (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) placed a close second with a throw of
41.56 meters.
Sophomore Ryan Timm (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
finished second in both the 100 and 200 meter dash with times of
11.56 and 23.21, respectively.
Matt Moeller (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) placed second in the 400
meter hurdles, while Zach Shiels (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside
Lutheran) posted second and third place finishes in the 1500 and
800 meter run, respectively.
The women's team placed fourth out of five teams with a total of
44 points. St. Norbert College captured the women's team title with
167 total points.
The Warrior women brought home a pair of second place finishes
on the day. Emily Goss (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) had a
toss of 9.61 meters in the shot put, while Deva Monson-Dupuis
(Greenfield, Wis./Whitnall) finished with a time of 66.78 in the
400 meter dash.
Wisconsin Lutheran travels to St. Louis, Mo., next weekend to
compete in the Washington University Select.
