MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball team was swept by the Edgewood College Eagles at home on
Monday afternoon by scores of 10-2 and 14-2 at Neumann Family
Field.
Edgewood scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take
an early 2-0 lead in the first game, but the Warrior answered with
single runs in the first and fourth inning to tie the game 2-2.
The Eagles countered by plating one run in both the fifth and
sixth innings. WLC trailed only by two runs, 4-2, heading into the
top of the eighth inning when Edgewood broke open the gates by
scoring six runs.
Josh Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) pitched eight
innings for the Warriors and was tagged with the loss.
Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) went 3-for-5
to lead WLC at the plate. Jake Thorsteins (Round Lake Beach,
Ill./Shoreland Lutheran), AJ Paczocha (Cudahy, Wis./Union Grove
Christian) and Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) each had two
hits.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Edgewood scored three
runs in four different innings to coast to a 14-2 victory.
Wisconsin Lutheran plated its two lone runs in the bottom of the
sixth inning on RBIs from Pollesch and Shawn Glasel (Appleton,
Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran). Pollesch led the Warriors at the plate
by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-19, 1-10 NAC) travels to River Forest,
Ill., on Tuesday to play the second game of its doubleheader from
last Saturday against the Concordia University Chicago Cougars.
Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
