SCHAUMBERG, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College baseball team saw its brief three-game winning streak come
to an end on Sunday at Alexian Field where it was swept by the
Dominican University Stars by scores of 3-0 and 6-4, despite strong
pitching performances.
The Stars scored three times in the first four innings, but
starter Cody Schmidt (Union City, Okla./Union City) shut them down
the rest of the way.
The Warrior offense struggled the entire game as the Dominican
starting pitcher scattered six hits, posting the 3-0 shutout.
Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois Lutheran) and Josh
Ferrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) had two hits apiece.
Schmidt threw a complete game, giving up three runs on eight
hits, striking out two and walking none.
Wisconsin Lutheran found itself trailing 3-0 heading into the
fourth inning of the second game when its bats finally woke up. WLC
scored four times on six hits in the inning to take a one run
lead.
Dominican answered back on a rally of its own in the bottom half
of the fourth, regaining the lead 6-4. Both teams went scoreless
the rest of the way as the Warriors lost 6-4.
Senior Chris Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) led the
offense by going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago,
Wis./Luther Preparatory) went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a
run scored.
John Lynch (Rosendale, Wis./Laconia) threw the second complete
game of the day for the Warriors, surrendering six runs, 10 hits,
four walks and struck out three.
Wisconsin Lutheran (5-21, 4-12 NAC) travels across town for a
non-conference doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch University on
Wednesday at 2 p.m.
