ROCKFORD, Ill. - Josh Ferrell's (Cocoa,
Fla./Temple Christian) two-run home run in the top of the 14th
inning lifted the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team past the
conference-leading Rockford College Regents 8-6 in game two of a
doubleheader on Tuesday evening. Rockford took game one by a score
of 8-3.
In game one, Ferrell put the Warriors on the board in the fourth
inning with a solo shot down the left field line. Matt Essig
(Lewiston, Minn./Luther) and Brad Marshall (Cudahy, Wis./Wisconsin
Lutheran) contributed RBIs in the sixth and ninth innings,
respectively, but it wasn't enough as Rockford scored six runs in
the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
In game two, Rockford started fast with four runs in the first.
WLC countered in the second on an RBI from AJ Paczocha (Cudahy,
Wis./Union Grove Christian).
The Warriors then exploded for four runs in the seventh on RBIs
from Essig and Justin Barkhurst (Crete, Ill./Illinois
Lutheran).
With the game tied in the top half of the 14th and a man on
base, Ferrell connected on his fifth home run of the season to put
the Warriors up by two. Wisconsin Lutheran than managed to hold off
the Regents in the bottom of the 14th to earn the win.
Brandon Hutsen (Oconomowoc, Wis./Lake Country Lutheran) picked
up the win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief after
Josh Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) pitched the first 12
innings.
The Warriors (6-28, 5-15 NAC) travel north to Appleton for a
non-conference doubleheader with Lawrence University on Wednesday.
