APPLETON, Wis. - After playing six games in the
last three days, the Wisconsin Lutheran College baseball team
struggled on the mound as it lost both non-conference games at
Lawrence University on Wednesday, 12-7 and 17-4.
The Warriors' first five batters reached base in the first
inning of game one as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Unfortunately,
the Vikings matched them with four runs of their own in the bottom
half of the inning.
After Lawrence scored six runs in the fourth inning, Shawn
Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) pulled the Warriors
within three runs in the fifth inning when he launched a two-run
home run over the left field fence.
WLC would get no closer as the Vikings went on to win 12-7.
Kyle Edlhuber (Mukwonago, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was 3-for-3
with a run scored and Chris Glasel (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley
Lutheran) also had three hits as the Warriors out-hit the Vikings
14-11.
The Vikings took advantage of a depleted Warrior pitching staff
in the nightcap, scoring six and seven runs in the second and
fourth inning, respectively. Lawrence went on to win 17-4.
Ryan Pollesch (Markesan, Wis./Markesan) led the Warriors at the
plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Josh Ferrell
(Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) went 2-for-2 and Shawn Glasel
knocked in two of the four Warrior runs.
Wisconsin Lutheran (6-30, 5-15 NAC) travels to Watertown on
Saturday to close out its 2008 season with a doubleheader against
Maranatha Baptist Bible College. First pitch is scheduled for 12
p.m.
