MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Marian College
Sabres on Saturday at Neumann Family Field. The home opener didn't
go quite as planned as the Warriors lost by scores of 16-7 and
13-3.
Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a lead in the second inning
when Justin Barkhurst (Crete, IL./Illinois Lutheran) hit a two-out,
two-RBI double, but Marian answered right back with three run of
its own.
Marian led 6-4 until pulling away late. The Sabres scored 10
runs over the final three innings. Junior starting pitcher Josh
Lemke (Brillion, Wis./Manitowoc Lutheran) took the loss, going five
innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on five hits, six
strikeouts and three walks. First baseman Jake Thorsteins (Round
Lake Beach, Ill./Shoreland Lutheran) paced WLC by going 3-for-5
with three RBIs and a run scored.
Marian jumped on top of the Warriors early in the second game,
scoring 11 runs over the first five innings.
Wisconsin Lutheran tallied eight hits with Thorsteins recording
half of them, including all three of the Warriors' runs. Josh
Farrell (Cocoa, Fla./Temple Christian) also went 2-for-2 with two
runs scored.
Wisconsin Lutheran (2-12, 1-3 NAC) travels to Mequon on Sunday
to face the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in a
doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
