NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Senior Beth Windschitl
(Sleepy Eye, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) and junior Zach
Shiels (Johnson Creek, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) each broke their
respective school records in the 5,000 meter run during the two-day
Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College on Thursday and
Friday.
Windschitl broke the women's 5,000 meter record by a full
minute, finishing with a time of 18:53.91. Shiels broke his own
school record by over a half minute, crossing the line in 14:55.40,
just missing the NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14:48.
Eight other WLC track & field athletes competed in the
two-day event. Emily Goss (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), Sarah
Hudson (Monroe, Wis./Monroe) and Rick LaFleur (Random Lake,
Wis./Random Lake) all participated in the hammer throw. Blaine
Welch (Bonduel, Wis./Bonduel) improved his season average in the
javelin by throwing over the 40 meter mark for the fifth time this
season.
Blake Miller (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) raced both
Thursday and Friday running the 5k and the 1500. Tyler Schroeder
(Sparta, Wis./Bangor) competed in the 800 while teammates Matt
Moeller (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) and Ryan Timm (New Ulm,
Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) used this meet as a decathlon tune
up, competing in the long jump, 110 hurdles and the 100 meter
dash.
Wisconsin Lutheran will take a select group of athletes to the
Gregory Multi-Event at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.,
which begins on Tuesday and wraps-up Wednesday.
