LISLE, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College
men's basketball team went 23-for-26 from the free-throw line and
made 13 three-pointers en route to an 82-73 win over the
Benedictine University Eagles on Wednesday in a Northern Athletics
Conference game at the Rice Center.
Benedictine led by as many as six points in the first half, but
Wisconsin Lutheran closed the half on a 6-0 run highlighted by a
Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran)
three-pointer as time expired to send the Warriors into halftime in
front 36-34.
The Warriors, who shot 7-for-12 from beyond the arc in the
second half, trailed only once (42-41) during the second half. WLC
extended its lead to a game-high nine point twice within the final
minute of the contest. The Eagles tied the game five different
times throughout the half but were unable to overcome the
Warriors.
Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) scored a
season-high 23 points, while seniors Danny Behm (Jackson,
Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) and Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva,
Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) each poured in 18 points for the Warriors,
who won despite being out-rebounded by the Eagles 24-6 on the
offensive glass.
Wisconsin Lutheran converted on 19 of 22 free throws in the
second half, opposed to only four free throws attempted by the
Eagles the entire game. WLC finished the game shooting 41.8 percent
(23-for-55), very comparable to Benedictine's 41 percent
(32-for-78) performance from the floor.
The Warriors committed only nine fouls and 11 turnovers in the
game, while the Eagles were whistled for 22 fouls and turned the
ball over 18 times.
A.J. Brown led four players in double figures for Benedictine
(8-6, 3-3 NAC) with 18 points. Cameron Snelling recorded a
double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Wisconsin Lutheran (7-6, 3-2 NAC) makes the short trip north to
Mequon on Saturday to battle the Concordia University Wisconsin
Falcons in a 4:15 p.m. tip-off at the Buuck Field House.
