DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Wisconsin Lutheran
College men's basketball team shot 54 percent from the floor and
had six players reach double-figure scoring en route to a 94-82 win
over Baruch College on Friday in the opening round of the Bahama
House/Best Western Aku Tiki Shootout.
Wisconsin Lutheran trailed 8-2, its largest deficit of the game,
at the 16:32 mark of the first half before taking the lead for good
at 17-15 with 10:28 remaining on the first half clock. The Warriors
led by as many as 12 points (29-17) before taking a 45-39 lead into
halftime.
WLC continued its hot shooting in the second half, shooting 58.6
percent from the floor. Before the Bearcats cut the deficit to
three points (58-55) with 12:19 left to play, the Warriors extended
their lead to a game-high 13 points three different times the rest
of the way.
Kyle Plath (Lake Geneva, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) made five
three-pointers and scored 19 points to lead Wisconsin Lutheran.
Kyle Madson (Madison, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran), who scored 13
first-half points, finished with 16.
Juniors Jeremy Burmeister (Phoenix, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran
Academy) and Ben Ziesemer (New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley
Lutheran) each poured in 12 points, while seniors Sam Siemers
(Nicollet, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) and Danny Behm
(Jackson, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) both added 11.
The Warriors shot 40.6 percent (13-for-32) from three-point
range and 76.5 percent (13-for-17) from the charity stripe. Baruch
shot 53.1 percent (34-for-64) from the floor for the game.
Lionel Hilaire scored 20 points to pace five players in double
figures for Baruch (8-3). Steven Bader finished with 10 rebounds to
go along with his 15 points for a double-double.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-4) will face shootout host Embry-Riddle
University in the title game on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Eagles
defeated Covenant College 104-55 in Friday's other first round
game.
